Band/Orch/Choir: Give conducting lessons to the those who are interested during class and allow your students to conduct. All. the. time. Pick 1-3 per class. Start by asking them to run a warmup of their choice. Add a chunk of a piece, just wait, they’ll be leading in weeks.

Anything else: Allow student directors or producers, let them run

Student Prop Design, Costume Design, Choreography Design. Start with something small. Work with them for a budget, timeline, production drafts, materials.

Designing and sewing costumes for a local parade. Supporting another program on campus by designing and sewing a piece.

Give them an idea for a prop design, ask for three drafts, even if just for a home game, or a single prop for a stage production.

Let them choreograph one set as a section. Ask them to design choreography and movement for a feeder program. Have them write a piece as an audition material for incoming students.
